Ann van Poperingen, the creator of Chic Handmades is based in Berlin, Germany, at least for the time being! Ann is a very international soul. Her father comes from Holland, her name comes from Belgium, the other side of her family is German, she grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA and has lived in Berlin for four years now. She longs to live in London as well before she settles down.
Ann is a Graphic Designer and a graduate of RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). She recently started making jewelry for the simple reason that the jewelry she wanted to buy was so simple to make! This inspired her to purchase some beads and a few tools and she was hooked! Ann has always been a creative person. Drawing since childhood, always keeping sketchbooks, playing violin and dancing in a semi professional ballet company for many years has kept her very involved in the arts. Jewelry design is just another creative avenue she needed to explore.
For Ann, jewelry designing is like being a collage artist. Combining various colors and shapes of beads, as well as contradictory materials all in one design are what make her designs interesting. For her process, she may do a few sketches or not, depending on the piece. Normally she lays all of her beads out in front of her and lets the creative energies flow, combining beads and materials spontaneously with a good eye for color and composition. This has allowed her to develop a truly unique style for her designs.
The comforting dangle and the sweet sound of jingling beads when you move are all a part of Ann’s charming earring designs and she hopes you will feel a boost of feminine confidence while wearing them.
